Mother and Daughter
This shot is a bit out of focus, and the lighting is fairly drab. The background is full of snapshot type clutter. And yet, it’s one of my favorites from Thanksgiving…the embrace…the way my daughter is weaving her fingers through my wife’s hair. No time to turn the flash on, just picked up the camera and shot.
Molly and Isaac
Taken the morning after Thanksgiving.
Isaac – Thanksgiving 2009
Isaac didn’t much care for the rocking chair…but did get some nice pics of him and of Molly and the family over the holiday. More to come, but this one of the I-man is my favorite from the weekend (so far).
New Hat – Made it to the Lighting Essentials Blog
Lighting Essentials is a blog run by Wizwow…a photographer I’ve learned a lot from through is blog and his work in general. I’ve been adding my photos to his Flickr pool for a while and finally got into one of his best of the pool posts.
Lisa and Rob
Another from my shoot on Friday. Really had a great time with LIsa and Rob and they had fun too. I love couple shoots…though the weather and the early dark didn’t really let us get as much of the couple type shots as usual, we all do like what we were able to get.
Rob
This is from my shoot Friday with Lisa and Rob. I love the drama in this portrait, mostly owing to the lighting. I had one of my assistants holding up the flash camera right and shooting through a tri-grip diffuser. Rather than using the softlight in close for an even spread, we kept the light 8 feet or so away from Rob, which gave the otherwise soft and wrappy light some punch. Got a lot of great shots of Rob (and of Lisa, to come) but this is my favorite of the singles.
Lisa and Rob
Had the opportunity to work with Lisa and Rob the other night for a couple’s session. The day was a dull gray overcast, so we scrapped our original plan to do more of a fashion look and just went with nice warm toned black and whites. We had a blast and we’re going to do another session on a day with better light to work with. In the meantime, I’ll be sharing a handful of images from their session over the next few days.
Molly by the Trolley
Yesterday was a beautiful warm sunny day here in Durham. After 3 days of rain and wind, we were all itching to get outside. This shot was taken at the Museum of Life and Science here in Durham. We had a great time, and, got one real nice photo. The background was a good bit brighter than where Molly was standing in the open shade, so I “lifted: her up a bit with an on camera flash turned way down so that it just adds a touch to the ambient light and doesn’t look like a flash photo. It’s a technique I’ve been working on and here I got it right I think.
New Hat
Another from my self portrait project. Been on more or less of a hiatus the last 2 months, but have a fun shoot planned for this afternoon. Bought this hat as a potential prop for it.
Self portrait with hat
